THE END OF AN ERA....

After 26 years I am retiring from teaching early morning Spanish. I started at Grant Elementary with Virginia Smith and then added on different schools, Liberty and Longview but the last 15 years I've been at Viewmont and Grant. I worked a short time in the after school program teaching Beginning Spanish at Parkside. After Virginia, Karen Greenwell taught at Grant with me. Those were really fun years. Because we had more time with the students, we did programs at the end of the year with dances and singing and awards. Because the teachers dwindled and I was left to teach both beginning and advanced classes, I had to split up the week. Still, it was so rewarding to see how fast these elementary students picked up the language. Mrs. Slade, the Spanish teacher at RJH, said she could always tell who had taken early morning Espanol in her Jr High classes; they were the most advanced students. I even taught 3 of Lara Slade's children at Viewmont over the years. I also taught 3 of Julie Hebertson's children at Viewmont. She is also a teacher at RJH. It is so fun to walk down the halls between classes and hear Senora Woodall! Hola! It's been a great 26 yrs. and I will miss it dearly, but maybe I'll be able to travel a little now during the school year if the occasion arises. Ah well, all good things must come to an end.....

CHURCH CLEANING AND OTHER THINGS....

Well, it was our turn to clean the church since our last name is between R-Z in the ward so Garn and I showed up at 7:50am and worked for a while and only 2 others came! So the 4 of us vacumned the whole church, all the classrooms (had to put up the chairs first), cleaned bathrooms and mopped too, cleaned all drinking fountains and sinks (including the Sacrament closet) washed all mirrors and windows inside and out, emptied all garbages and put all the chairs back down; all within 1 1/2 hrs! I think we were given some extra help. I even called all the people on the list to remind them earlier in the week. Oh well, it was good exercise. Then I went home and cooked up a pound of bacon to use for later on in the week, cut and bagged pork chops to freeze, cooked a pound of taco meat to use whenever, made scrambled eggs and hash browns and some of the bacon for breakfast, cut up lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, celery, cuke, for salads, grated a lb of cheese to have on hand for the tacos, changed the sheets, did 3 loads of laundry and of course made the bed up again, did a load of dishes, read the church news and now am finishing the laundry before we get ready to go to Marcus's 2 baseball games, if they don't get rained out. I think spring weather has inspired me to spring clean and plan meals ahead, (which, for those who know me, that is RARE). Anyway, it feels good to be ahead of the game once in a while, instead of behind the eight ball. Thank goodness for Sat to catch up! Now, if I could just get my hay fever under control!
