Even though it's freezing out......

I love spring break simply for the fact I can sleep in! I get to play more racquetball and go to the temple and shop and know that I don't have to be up early the next day! If it were only warmer.....sigh, can't have everything!

Our Stake Young Women Won!

I didn't see the final game but Carol Briggs ran the region and told me 4 out of the 6 girls fouled out so they finished with only 2 girls! Luckily they had a big enough lead that they were able to hold on and win! Stacey and Sarah (one of my previous spanish students) Sessions played from our ward. Sarah is only a beehive but she plays really well!
Update on my friend Karen: Recovering from surgery and trying to get stronger to heal enough to undergo Chemo. We had a ward fast and prayer today and Duff says the outcome of the surgery wasn't what they had hoped but the Drs. are pleased with her recovery so far. Please include my friend in your prayers.......Thanks!
Now, if the snow would just go away and let us see the sun, then I would be a happy camper this spring break!

Reffing was fun!

I got to reff with my long-time friend, Jolee. She used to be in the 16th ward when it was still part of our Stake and I reffed HER when she was a young woman. We talked about all the great years of Girl's Camp when her mom, Jeanette Coon, and Eula Kemp were Stake Camp Leaders. When I moved in the 13th ward over 30 years ago I started reffing and going to girl's camp as a leader and then continued while all three of my girls went through the 6 yrs of young womens. I went to camp for over 20 yrs either as a stake or ward leader. Those were wonderful, never to be forgotten times. Now, over the years, my own daughters have gone as leaders.
Anyway, yesterday our stake girls were still winning when I left. I reffed their 4pm and 6pm games and they were to play at 8pm for the championship game. Hope they won! They only had 5 girls cuz it's Spring Break and a lot of girls were out of town. Can't believe Murray is having their Break weeks before anyone else! What's the rationale for that??

Heading to SPRING!

Even though outside still looks and feels like winter I'm thinking warm.
Last night at Book Club we talked about Austenland. Even though I'm not a Jane Austen fanatic or a big Colin Firth fan, I really like Shannon Hale as an author. (Think Goose Girl, Princess Academy, Enna Burning) This was a real departure for her but she did it well. It was at my house and because it was the start of spring break for Murray District ( I know, Murray days off never coincide with the rest of the world!) we didn't have all the regulars but we had a great time and stayed til after 10pm. Next month it's Surprised by Joy by CS Lewis, one of my favorite authors of all time! What an insightful man.
We are also fasting and praying for our friend Karen G. All our prayers go out to her and her family at this time and hope she responds well to the chemo for her cancer.
I was so excited to sleep in today and for the next 9 days!! I only have 6 more weeks of tutoring and then off to Seattle to see my new grandson born! Course, I'll be out of work for the summer, but I'll have time to play! Only 1 more month of Early Morning Espanol too. I'm going to miss my darling 6th graders who'll move on to the Jr. High next year but at least I'll get to see them in the halls!
I'm reffing the semi-finals of Murray Region church basketball today and our Stake is playing! Should be fun.

Yea! I took first place!

I was able to pull out first place in my Racquetball Tournament this week-end. Thurs. night wasn't too hard. I took it in 2 games: 15-0, 15-3. Fri night nearly killed me. I played a BYU college girl and her r-ball coach came up with her. Most matches are about 1/2 hr long. This one was 1 1/2 hrs! I took the first game 15-13, she took the 2nd 15-12, I took the tie breaker 11-8. I was so tired and sore. This morning I woke up stiff and sore so I was worried how I would do. The gal I played trains with Kiersten Walsh, a national champion ranked 5 in the nation. Her handshake about broke my fingers! I was really fortunate that I was able to take the match in two games: 15-3, 15-5. I got a $25 gift certificate and a long sleeve t-shirt and all the food you can eat (although I was having gall bladder problems so I didn't eat there Thurs or Fri) I only paid $25 entry fee so I came out ahead! ( Thanks to a whole lot of prayer)
