THE DR. SAYS.....

It's squamous cell skin cancer. I had a small lump removed Tue. and a large one Wed. which left a small crator in my leg. I guess they take so much to get all the surrounding cells but trying to pull the sides of the crator together after was interesting. He went pretty far beneath too. I wanted to watch. The DR said I could until I passed out. I told him I don't pass out. It was ok til he started cauterizing the hole. It's interesting how they did it. He wore extra thick gloves and had a large pair of tweezers which the nurse touched with an electrically charged probe which sent a spark down the tweezers to burn the tissue. Can't say as I enjoyed it but it was educational. He said the gloves were so that he didn't get electrocuted. It wasn't as painful as when my orthopedic Dr. cut out blood clots in my leg from a softball line drive that took my leg out from under me and caused blood poisoning. I watched that surgery too but my leg started shaking toward the end because he was close to the bone and that part was NOT numb! So he left a drain in and just closed up the leg. It also happened to be on that same leg. Can't afford any more flesh taken out of that leg! This time my leg didn't shake and I didn't feel the pain. He didn't go to the bone either. I took 4 antibiotics 2 hrs before surgery yesterday and will take 3 a day for 10 days. He wants to be sure nothing gets infected because I leave on Mon for Seattle for a week then on to Dallas for another week. I'm such a jet setter! I'll be back on Fri Aug 14th and will see him to take out the stitches on Mon. No more water parks for a while! Anyway the biopsies on both lumps will be in Wed. so I'll call in then. The Dr doesn't think the smaller lump is cancer. He said it would be really rare to have 2 lumps that close together and at different stages in growth to be cancerous. Besides, the smaller one didn't have any of the characteristics of the larger one.

On to more exciting news. Sadie won a hula hoop contest on July 4th in Murray Park and received 2 tickets to Nunsense at the outdoor amphitheater. Since she's back home and Haylie is still here we're going tonight. Should be fun!
